What about keeping dependents up to age 26 on parents health insurance?
Question by Barbara S: What about keeping dependents up to age 26 on parents health insurance?
While I am not in favor of Obama health care plan at all I do feel that with the economy the way it is and dependents getting out of college and not finding jobs that keeping the part of health care where dependents are allowed to continue their health insurance under their parents plan is VERY important and I would like to know if Obama’s plan is dumped if you intend to keep SOME of the ideas in place.

It’s not up to me. But, for years age 19 or age 23 if you’re in college worked just fine. That’s the rules I fell under and when I fell off my father’s coverage, I bought health insurance.
It’s not like keeping them on the insurance is free. It drives up the costs because those plans are all insuring more people.
I recently heard that a military parent discovered that that benefit didn’t extend to his dependent over age 21.
The Supreme Court will rule on ObamaCare next year. If the bill is repealed, it is possible that dependents (ages 22-26) may have to purchase their own policy.
However, typically, rates are chjeap and Open Enrollments are available in most states for individuals with major health problems.
The adult child does not have to be a tax dependent. Supreme Court will hear briefs on these issues next March and make the decision about constitutionality of all parts or some parts of the Health Care Act. No one knows except some lawyers.
If Obama care is repealed the Congress will have to replace or restore some of the programs that affect healthcare and if the age requirement is important to you, you need to contact your congressman and request that it be considered when the new programs are drawn up.
