Where can I buy a giftcard that works anywhere credit cards are accepted?
I need to buy some giftcards (master card, visa, etc) that can be used anywhere credit cards can be used. The credit card sites ship out the cards obviously, but I need to buy them right away. Where can I walk into to buy these types of giftcards?

I’ve bought them a number of places but the best price I have found is at WalMart.

I know my bank has them..Wells Fargo. Try going to your bank they have the visa cards. Oh..and Traveler’s checks now have the visa credit card.
The Visa Gift card is a prepaid card that is welcome at millions of locations where Visa debit cards are accepted—including retail stores and online merchants—and for mail and phone orders.
Some banks have them, and I think WalMart might sell them as well.
If you want it “everywhere” you will not find one. This is because these gift cards are anonymous(they don’t have the receivers name on it). Contrary to what the promotional material says, a lot of stores including a majority of On-Line sites, Gas Stations, Hotels, Airlines will not accept these type of cards. I have received a couple of these types of cards and found out the hard way.
These gift cards may seem like a nice idea, but they also have a fee to begin with, and do not allow you to withdraw the money from an ATM. It may not seem as “personal”, but if you give cash and put time into the presentation of the gift the receiver will still think it is a thoughtful gift and they will also get more use out of the “cold hard cash”.
If you do decide to get one of these cards be sure to read the terms of the card BEFORE you buy it. They will have a copy of these terms at the place you decide to get one.
walgreens sells American express gift cards. (fee added) as well as most major store gift cards.
