When applying for food stamps, do you have to claim student loans as a type of income?

I work (but only part-time right now), but my husband is a graduate student for another year and receives extra student loans as a way to pay for personal expenses (rent, food, insurance, etc), since he cannot work while in school. Because of financial hardships, we have been relying on credit cards and reserve lines to pay for rent and groceries, so I thought I’d see if we can get food stamps for a few months. Do you think we will qualify?

No you do not claim student loans as income. However, if you receive any grants or scholarships then they may be counted. Here is a calculator that may help you to see if you may qualify.
