What is the best dental insurances?
By the way i live in California!
Hi i am looking for a dental plan for just my child so she can get affordable braces/headgear and also oral surgery! Im really trying to look for a great deal so i don’t need to pay very much and it would be great if you could reply fast because she needs to get them hopefully before the break is over! Thanks!

I life Safeguard from Metlife. But there other plans too.
Don’t bother.
Private dental coverage doesn’t pay out more than it costs. Once you buy it, you usually have to keep it a year before you can get anything “big” done, and when you DO get something like braces, coverage is USUALLY 50% up to $1,000 paid out over three years, and YOU have to pay the other $3,000 to $5,000 yourself.
See, pretty much the only people who want to buy private dental coverage, want to get “big stuff” done, and then cancel the coverage; so the coverage is written in such a way that the insurance companies won’t lose money, because there isn’t REALLY any “sharing of cost”. As evidenced, by YOU – see, you don’t want it for EVERYONE in your family, only for the person that you want to get massive work done on.
The best dental insurance that you could get would have a waiting period for braces and oral surgery of 12 months before you can get full benefits. Then, the plan will pay only 50% up to the limit, with a maximum of $1500 for the very best plan. So you’ll be paying $100 per month for 12 months, then you can get the braces. The plan will pay $1500 for the braces and you’ll pay the remaining $3000 – $5000. There are cheaper plans but they’ll have lower limits or longer waiting periods.
You should check into a dental school near you to see what they could do for you. You can find the nearest school here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Dentalschools.html
I am in California and recently looked into dental insurance. BTW do you qualify for Healthy Families or Medi-Cal because Medi-Cal has child dental services.
I found that only two insurance policies are offered. That does not include so-called dental plans for a small amount of money per month. The services are limited and they don’t cover much. The insurance policies have a drawback in that you have a waiting period for major work like root canals and crowns.
Blue Cross and Delta are the two insurance companies. I got the information through a local independent insurance agent by phone who had info on several different policies and plans. I like looking at the printed material that he sent through the mail. These days people circumvent the process by going online but I wanted to deal with a real person.
