How would another company find out my insurance premium?

My spouses company only allows me to be on their health insurance if my employer covers 49% or less of the premium of the insurance offered to me by my employer. If not, then I am required to have my employer’s insurance and I can have their insurance as a secondary if I’d like. How would they find out what my company pays on the premium? Call my company? I wouldn’t think that would be something that an employer would discuss with someone over the phone.

I don’t think they are allowed to discuss this without you signing something giving them pemission. I could be wrong, but I think this information is confidential.

    Yep, they’ll call your company.

The vast majority of group health insurance plans, the employer pays at LEAST 50%, otherwise, they don’t get to write the insurance off their taxes. So it’s pretty rare, that an employer pays some, but less than 50%.

It’s not specific to YOU, so it doesn’t violate the privacy laws. All they have to say is, we’re from XYZ Health, determining spousal eligibility (don’t even have to name the employee), can you confirm that you contribute less than 50% to the company health insurance plan. That’s all they have to ask.

Insurance companies have a vast database that they can run your name through and find out a lot of things. Insurance Companies share information
