How do I get insurance with kids and no job?

Health Insurance

Health Insurance

I got laid off a year ago and still can’t find a job. I work random farmhand jobs every now and then to make ends meet. My health insurance from my layoff package is about to expire. My wife is still part time until they decide to hire her full time so she doesn’t get any benefits. I have 2 boys that I am worried about if something happens. Is there anyway to find health insurance/ dental. I tried a few places like BC-BS and they wanted an arm and a leg.

I really can’t answer your question because I live in Canada & our medical system is different than yours. I just wanted to give you some words of encouragement because I understand the kinds of frustrations you must be feeling. Sometimes we get stuck into a certain way of thinking and we don’t realize we are limiting ourselves and keeping the things we want to happen from happening. Go rent this movie that is called “The Secret” it is a documentary and I promise you it will change your life.

BC/BS bill quarterly. lots of $! ask former employer if you can pay COBRA premium. this is what employer pays for you, lots of bucks. the part you paid into plan while employed is zero or a nominal amount. the employer pays lions share. under COBRA you can keep family coverage if you pay same employer and employee contribution.

call state or contact county social services to see if you qualify for medicaid.

You might or might not qualify for a government program, such as medicaid or something similar. However, eligibility is based on total household income, so your wife’s job might pay too much for you to qualify.

If you do not qualify, then answer to your question can be found in your last sentence: You pay an arm and a leg.

Apply for Medi-Cal or the county’s free health insurance

You can try applying for Medicaid. Otherwise, an individual plan is your only option.

You apply for welfare health insurance – Medicaid. If your family income is too high for Medicaid, you can at least apply for your kids under the Medicaid CHIPS program, which has more lenient income guidelines.

There’s no cheap, private income based health insurance.
