Any good recommendations for pet insurance companies?
Question by vixen: Any good recommendations for pet insurance companies?
I am looking to buy pet insurance for my puppy. I would like to pay about $ 20- or less a month (for all injury or emergency coverage). I would really appreicate anyone who already has a good pet insurance company to recommend it to me. Thanks.

You are gonna pay $ 240 a year for PET INSURANCE? Yikes. Then, you will still have deductibles and copays to make?
Think about the life of the dog and how much you will spend. Unless you end up with a very sick dog, this will not pay off. Pet Insurance is a bad idea. Just stick $ 20 in a savings account each month and you will have a nice emergency fund to use if something happens.

I’m not that familiar with the pet insurance companies.
You might want to post this question on the Pets – Dogs page. I bet someone over there is more familiar with the pet insurance.
OK, it’s not going to be all inclusive, and there will be big copays and deductibles.
Basically, you’re most likely going to pay more in than you’re going to get out.
I don’t insure my pets. I think it’s a waste of money.
I went shopping recently. This is the cheapest with the most comprehensive coverage or for emergency visits I could find

There is the Emergency Care plan http://www.sheltercare.com/us/dog/emergency/index.asp?cuid=
Quick Care Plan

TenantCare Plan

I have 3 animals, so it became approximately $ 49.95/month for all 3.
You have to weigh the likelihood of you taking your animal to the vet for preventive care vs. emergency care. Since your animal is a puppy, you may want to consider doing the tenantCare program since little ones like to eat everything in sight
As your animal ages and the “common sense” kicks in, then you can graduate down to a lesser expensive plan like Quick Care or strictly for emergency care. Otherwise, as the gentleman says, set aside the money your self monthly and save it for that unexpected, unfortunate rainy day when it is a pet emergency.
I came across this site thanks to a friend of mine who recently adopted 2 kittens from ASPCA and they offered this very insurance company’s policy free for each kitten for the first month with the option to continue the plan.
Good luck with your new puppy!
