charging younger drivers higher insurance rates, doesn’t that fall under discrimination?
Question by dazed and confused: charging younger drivers higher insurance rates, doesn’t that fall under discrimination?
I understand that some younger drivers are dumb and drive like idiots. I am almost 23 and have not had a ticket or gotten into an accident(knock on wood). why should younger drivers have to pay more, doesn’t that classify as discrimination.
i find it funny you can go to war for your country but the insurance companies still screw you over. And my favorite you cant rent a car till your 25, seriously makes no sense.

No.
Your age isn’t the only factor. The kind of car you drive and what type of insurance you have can cause a higher rate.

Absolutely.
Just like, charging someone with five dui’s and 18 at fault accidents more, than someone with a clean driving record, is ALSO discrimination.
Just like charging you less money for life insurance, than a 70 year old guy with cancer, is ALSO discrimination.
Just like, when you go into a restaurant, and order a burger instead of liver and onions – that’s discrimination, too.
Not ALL discrimination is unfair. And as younger drivers (and drivers over 70, btw) have the highest claims payouts, it’s fair to charge them more money.
Yes, but not as illegal discrimination. Discrimination based on nearly anything (except for race, religion, etc.) is legal. Age discrimination is allowed, except for (1) housing discrimination, and (2) discrimination against workers over 40 in employment matters. For example, it is legal to prohibit ten-year-old children from voting, even though that is also discrimination.
of course it’s discrimination, but it’s completely fair and factual! Discrimination happens all the time, but in some industries, ESPECIALLY insurance industries, discrimination is needed in order for hte buisness to run. Health and life insurances discriminate against non-healthy people with pre-existing conditions becuase if they didn’t claims would go through the roof and healthy people would not buy…that means they turn into a charity that just gives money away. House insurance rates are higher in places where there is a higher risk of damage (IE: I would assume if you live in Florida on the coast line, your insurance is more expensive than living in a safe weather place like North Dakota or something).
Not all dicrimination is a bad thing. This whole equality thing just goes WAY too far these days. Technically allowing people to drive only if they pass a drivers license is a form of discrimination as well, but you’ll never see them just hand the keys over to someone that’s never driven before and say that’s fine. Technically, not allowing a criminal to be a police officer is a form of discrimination, but you’ll rarely see them hire a criminal to work for them…
PS: I beleive it’s based more on experience than age, even though both would tend to have a direct correlation.
It is all a matter of risk assessment by insurance companies to make the most profit. They penalize older drivers over age 65 as well as young drivers under 25. This is not legal discrimination based on age. They are not denying you car insurance, they are assessing the likelihood of claims by your age and where you live.
