Best insurance for young driver?

Question by Spencer: Best insurance for young driver?
I live in Ontario, and I am looking for the best (or give me a list) of relatively cheap companies. I am 16 years old, but gathering information for when I am 17-18.

My parents are currently with State Farm, but I am looking to purchase a Mini Cooper (y. 2000-2004), so what would be the best option for me?

A list of good insurance companies would be helpful, and any additional information is great.
Thank you in advanced,
Spencer

State Farm is good. If you live with your parents you will get more discounts, like multi-car discount and maybe multi-line if they have the home with them too. Get a car that is 4 doors. They cost less to insure than 2 doors. Get some quotes from the State Farm agent on different cars.

    StateFarm is pretty good.

I would also check esurance and have them send you different proposals, which helps you to compare.

    Netquote lets you compare, too:

State Farm is a good company, but very expensive for young drivers.

State Farm is not necessarily “very expensive” for young drivers. Every person’s price is going to be different. Also, if you stick with State Farm, you should qualify at the level of your parents, and get at least multicar discount, if not some other discounts. State Farm also offers several discounts for youthful drivers. I am speaking of experience in the US, but the rules I assume are similar.

It also depends on if you are going to want physical damage coverage for the car itself. Also, you are looking to get a newer, slightly higher end car – be prepared to pay the premiums no matter who you go through or get a cheaper, older car.

Call your parents SF Agent and get a quote – ask what discounts are available. You may be pleasantly surprised!
