Is there an advantage to getting your auto and home insurance through the same company?

Question by iamshaneihaveaface: Is there an advantage to getting your auto and home insurance through the same company?
I’m a first time homeowner preparing to purchase my first house, and I’m looking into auto and home insurance rates. It looks like my best bet is to go with Progressive for auto and Liberty Mutual for home insurance, but I was wondering if there’s any advantage to getting both insurances under the same company. I’ve looked at rates at other companies, and either the auto or the home insurance at the same company is just way too high.

Usually insurance companies will cut you a deal if you use more than just one of their services.

BUT you have to ask for a discount before you agree to any of the services.

If you have any military in your family I would definitely recommend going with USAA. They have the most inexpensive plans and are very flexible with your budget.

If you dont have any military and can’t join USAA…well…DONT go to farmers.

There can be. Most insurance companies offer substantial discounts on the policies, for having both policies with the same company – up to 40% off, depending on the company, the policy, and your state.

When you’re looking at rates, ask to compare WITH a “companion credit” or “package credit” or whatever the name is that they call it. You might be VERY surprised.

One more thing – you ALSO should go check with complaints, at your state insurance department website. Here in Texas, Liberty Mutual has the highest percentage of “upheld complaints” – where they unfairly denied coverage, the customer complained, and the insurance commissioner agreed that Liberty Mutual was acting unfairly.

I get multi-policy discounts from my insur co for doing that

car insur is going to depend on your car year, make and model, your age, your zip code, deriving history, details on types of coverage chosen and miles driven annually -

homeowners insurance shouldn’t vary much between companies for the same coverage

get quotes for ALL your insurance as a “package” with multiple companies and see which one saves you the most overall for EXACTLY the same coverage

Usually there is a discount if you have both policies with the same company. Also, it is easier to budget, because all premiums are combined onto one bill.

  4. California Casualty

Having multiple insurance coverages in one insurer provides additional benefits such as discount,
