How does pet insurance work?
Question by Lexi: How does pet insurance work?
I really need to get my cat insured, he’s a little fecker always getting into trouble and
I cant always afford to pay huge vet fees so how does cat insurance work?
Can anyone reccomend a good insurance company in Ireland,
how much do they normally pay off vet bills and how soon after you get the insurance could you use it?

First, pet insurance isn’t TRUE insurance. It’s not regulated, no one needs a license to sell it.
Second, it doesn’t work like health care – they don’t pay the bill FOR you. You pay your vet up front, and then send the receipt in, and they’ll reimburse you according to your coverages.
The BEST person to talk to, regarding coverage, is your vet. You actually posted this to the USA board, FYI.
ps. you could also consider keeping your cat indoors. Indoor cats live substantially longer than indoor/outdoor or outdoor cats. And have substantially lower vet bills.

Talk to your vet and see if he advises you to take the policy. If he does he will have a company reference for you to contact.
