Hi, my friend has overstayed her three months in australia, if she gets travel insurance will she be covered if anything happens to her while traveling? Because she is illegal here would this make a difference?

No, insurance companies do not care about your immigration status. I will not even be a question asked by the agent or the website, the reason is, because it does not matter, either you are insured by them or not, immigration is a federal issue not an insurance issue.
The only time that you find out that you cannot get insurance because you are undocumented and most auto insurance policies require you to be a licensed driver. Sometimes it can be hard for a undocumented worker to get a license.
I thought only the US had illegals. Where does Australia kick their illegals too?….Tasmania? Antarctica?
And, no the insurance company doesn’t check visas so it does not make a difference on that front.
…BTW – You DO NOT have to buy travel (medical) insurance prior to the start of the trip.
Travel insurance is extremely limited in what it covers.
And you have to buy it BEFORE the start of the trip. Legal status shouldn’t matter.
