I can’t find a job anywhere, what should I do?

Question by Jessica R: I can’t find a job anywhere, what should I do?
Okay, well I’m 16 and guess what? I can’t get my license until I get a job that pays $ . My parents can’t afford for me to get my license because of the price of insurance. Yeah, they claim young, inexperienced drivers cause more wrecks but that’s not why the insurance companies jack insurance prices through the roof. They do that because they can. Anyway, I live in a semi-small town, but it has quiet a few businesses in which people my age can work for. I’ve put in so many applications, called the places and everything.

I’m just really stressed out, and have no idea where to turn. Because I can’t get my license or a car until I get some money, which I can’t get without a job because I’m not like a lot of people around here who’s my age which were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Wow, ignore the creepy ads! I’m in the same position as you – I’ve been sending off loads of applications and sending my CV to recruitment agencies and had no luck so far. I think you just have to be persistent and keep trying – there are so many people out of work at the moment that it’s just a numbers game, you have to apply for as much as possible. And stay positive, there are lots of people who have been affected a lot worse by the economic climate. At least you still have somewhere to live! Good luck :)

If you can’t find a traditional job, why not start your own business. You could take out an ad in a local newspaper offering lawn work, babysitting, dog walking etc. Those are things that busy people always need help with and don’t take a “job” to do. You could also ask permission to post information in your local grocery store, etc. Good luck.

Make babysitting flyers using the computer and put them in the library, people’s mailboxes, and grocery stores.

Drum up more business and keep a notebook to schedule when you do get a customer.

Culver’s minimum hiring age is 14 with a workers permit.

I called many stores because I am 14 looking for a job. This was the response they gave which makes me happy after looking for so long.

Find a local one go online and apply and go in store to apply or call and ask if they are hiring.

What I did was Google a bunch of business near my home and found their numbers using Google maps or their sites and I called and directly asked if they are hiring and what age do they hire at.

Try local grocery stores, pizza parlors, retail stores, fast food restaurants.
