You would have to call your insurance agent ( I would imagine you have car insurance ) and ask him what type of policy you would need to protect you from someone suing you because your dog bit them.

Renter’s liability insurance.
It’s a good idea to have renter’s insurance to cover your property anyway. If the property is damaged, your personal items are not covered by the landlords insurance.
Renter’s insurance often covers your liability for things like this. Ask your insurance agent about it.
General Liability insurance might also fit the bill. Your landlord would need to be named as an “additional insured” and the amount of the policy would depend on the value of that real estate and the landlord’s other holdings.
The landlord’s concerns are justified in such cases, since an injured party could easily include the property owner in any lawsuit. He just doesn’t want to get dragged into any such litigation, or at least know that his legal bills, plus any rational judgment for the plaintiff, will be covered by the tenant.

It depends on your breed. You can add a normal dog to renters insurance.
If your dog is dangerous you would need to obtain a bond for it, as normal insurance is void if a dangerous animal is on the property.
